"All relationships are about seeing the beloved in the other and coaxing it out. They are about maintaining your awareness of yourself while giving your attention to another. They are about connecting heart to heart - building a bridge between body and mind."

PROGRAMME IN 2011:
TANGO TO FREEDOM
Intensive day workshops followed by an informal milonga (an evening dance) for the participants...
with Biljana Lipic
An ongoing workshop space for those interested in exploring, sharing and reflecting upon the colours and shades of our humanity through the language of Argentine tango. Our aims will be nothing more and nothing less than to be more playful, more present to each other and more fully ourselves!
Working with tango as a portal through which we are able to experience unity and community, whilst also allowing our desire for freedom to challenge and temper the same - we shall be asking ourselves what does it mean to be both intimate and creative and how can we embody a full response-ability as well as total freedom.
Questioning, dancing, playing, sharing - this will be a space in which to delve deeper into our creativity as also the core of our humanity. For our explorations we shall mainly use tango movement vocabulary, although at times we may dive into a different context of creative body work as well.
The workshops are open to all level dancers, including those who wish to try tango for the first time. Please bring food to share for lunch. Also, please note we shall be working without shoes - so please bring good socks!
“I loved your workshop. It struck me that you really take care of the human being and as a result everybody was completely at ease. And that is a great starting point not just for improving tango technique but for adventures beyond what I thought was possible. I came away not just refreshed but enriched with wonderful insights and relationships, plus with much better tango too!” - Kim Bour, UK
"Biljana is a great instructor with profound understanding of the dance, inspiring enthusiasm and passion.. I took three classes from her and loved them all. She was not just teaching steps, but spent a lot of efforts helping students to understand the movement itself... how it is generated within our bodies, how different parts of the body work together to produce smooth, relaxed and enjoyable movement.. I found it very inspiring and refreshing." - Sasha, Anchorage, USA
"Thank you for the last workshop, I so enjoyed it. Such a lovely mix of people and I love the way you approach your teaching - it's really inspiring." - Claire Stronach, UK
“The first time you meet Biljana you feel like you have been her friend all your life. She has that very rare gift of being completely open hearted, warm and welcoming. I love going to her workshops which are challenging at times but always fun. I leave feeling much enriched; that the time spent was not enough, and looking forward to the next adventure.” - Nicky Scott, UK

SHAMANIC TANGO
movement - communication - transformation
Workshops and retreats with Biljana Lipic
Both Shamanism and Argentine tango are often misinterpreted and misunderstood practices. Shamanic Tango was born through my endeavor to bring their languages and forms, as I've experienced working with them over the last 20 years, into a modern context of living and creative work that is at once ancient and traditional as well as contemporary. It is designed for the men and women who feel drawn to a spiritual enquiry within a creative environment and vice versa, a creative enquiry within a spiritual environment.
During the workshops, we use deeply insightful and inspirational maps of the shaman to develop the shaman's wide awareness of energy and nature within and around us. Combining that with the dancer's physical and sensually intimate explorations of the body and the connections we make through it, we strengthen our connection to the inner sense of oneness and the energy flow and through the sacred realm of the shaman bring it into something as embodied and tangible as a dance embrace.
By weaving into a colourful tapestry the practical structures and techniques imbued with the intentions, dynamic impulses and symbolism of both of these potent worlds, through the work we re-invigorate our presence, imagination, body awareness and communication and bring more of our natural potential into a physical manifestation.
Starting in December 2011 I will present the body of this work through the weekend workshops which will be inter-related, but each will emphasize a specific part of the work:
DANCER AS THE BRIDGE BETWEEN THE WORLDS
Fri 2nd - Sun 4th December 2011
(the workshop commences Fri evening and closes Sun eve)
During this weekend we shall mainly work with the ancient and cross-culturally known technique of 'shamanic journeying between the worlds'. We shall use it in a variety of well-trodden as well as creative ways, but will always stay within the shaman's three tiered universe, in which all is inter-connected and conscious. In this way we shall be accessing plant, animal and other spiritual powers of nature and guided by them, we shall be learning about our own dancing nature.
Drawing upon the wealth of the shaman's artistry, using sound, movement, imagery and symbolic language, we shall aim to retrace the shaman's archaic wisdom as all of our untimely wisdom, which is accessed and expressed through our bodies and creative intelligence. We shall furthermore explore and learn to manifest this wisdom through poetic communication and walking structures of the tango dance.
By means of the shaman's as well as the dancer's practical ways we shall ground in an intimate relationship with earth and nature and through that with our self and each other; at the same time soaring with our spirits, imagination and creative thought. Thus bridging the worlds of the physical and the spiritual, body and ideas, we shall explore dance as a metaphor through which we are able to expand, develop our communication and be inspired anew.
DANCER AS SHAPE-SHIFTER
dates tbc.
During this workshop we shall work with the techniques of merging with the essence of the spiritual powers of nature, in this way seeking to embody more of our human potential. Attending to the tango and shamanic structures and rituals in a safe context of the sacred space, we shall train how to transform our energy shape and also to flow with the constant changes of energy according to our own intuition, felt sense, creative and spiritual authority.
Working with the doorway of our will, its receptive and active sides, our aim will be to ground in the heart place of both calm witnessing as well ability to freely and playfully express ourselves within our experience of having a body, moving and sensually interacting through it.
Training an awareness of our essential shapelessness, as well as an ability to become any shape we desire, we shall maximize our presence in the here and now as well as be able to create openings to the new levels of our sentient being.
DANCER AS CO-CREATOR
dates tbc.
Here we shall look into the shaman as the original artist, dancer and creator and seek to be inspired in the same way - by finding the true creative source within, in our innermost self and relationship with spirit. Like shamans, diving into the depths of the collective unconscious and flying the heights of the superconscious, we shall be bringing gems of our insight into a tangible, visceral and poetic form that equally speaks of our present condition as well as of our dreams.
We shall see how whatever we bring exists as a unique and meaningful part within our communal bodies. Expanding the field of our body-centered awareness, our journey will be one of a joyful walk. A walk within both shaman's as well as the tango dancer's inter-connected universe, in which the archetypal forces move us to co-create a dance through and beyond our differences, with courage to play with the meanings and the limitations of our own humanity - yet outside of time, returning us to the experience of infinite oneness.
NOTE FOR ALL THE WORKSHOPS: The work is done both indoors and outdoors; individually, in pairs and as a group. Each place, workshop and group are worlds in themselves, each journey different, hence an openness towards wonder and surprises of the unknown is treasured. The workshops are not therapy groups, so everyone is invited to hold their own process, to participate as well as to witness when and as they choose to.

"I haven't yet met anyone or anything that has influenced me so much to accept myself and others and to awake." - Aleksandra Ljubinkovic, Serbia
"I have never moved like that with anyone in my life. Whilst moving, I had enough awareness outside the movement to simultaneously be awed by the beauty of what was happening. To feel like my body knew how to do it by itself, enough to let me ride in it, mesmerized." - Trevor Miller, UK
"I can't wait for another workshop. In short it was different, special, new, beautiful, joyful, relaxed, very interesting, unforgettable feeling and experience. A lot, and I don't even remember everything, but it will probably keep coming." - Vladimir Perovic, Serbia
"...I felt that all was so good and meaningful for all of us.... I felt it was important... I felt a beginning, a wave of happiness... " - Jelena Tasic, Serbia
"From the workshop onwards, I seem calmer, somehow deeper yet lighter, more relaxed. I feel a bit more connected via some elastic threads with the world around me, but not with its superficial layer, which often at first carries a lot of negativity and frustration, but with the axis of things and everything around me... "
"Thank you for helping me feel as if my hands have extended and are now able to embrace the whole world!"
- Vesna Gojakovic, Serbia
